In our early faith walks, comfort and security were our companions.
But as the faith within us moves and grows,
we find its way marked by choices that stretch us,
…some gently, …others challenging and risky, …and occasionally painful.
Gracious God, even so, we choose to live our worship,
to honor you moment by moment
by embracing our questions and histories,
…our passions and uncertainties,
…embracing them not out of habit or obligation, …but by choice.
May we be thoughtful about being entrusted
with a legacy of our particular choices in life,
choices borne of others work and our own unique presence.
Though we can never know the the ultimate consequence
of any given choice, whether large or small,
May we know better that each one matters,
…that each one alters our path, and the circumstance around us,
indeed, that each choice changes the future,
and changes the legacy we leave.
These days we choose to rethink church,
in search of a more uncluttered and essential Christianity,
…in search of ways of living and being and doing
that echo more perfectly the heart and message of Jesus.
And in those ways, we choose to help rebuild lives,
as our way of being your hands of healing
and restoration and redemption,
…extended to our brothers and sisters.
So speak ever in your gentle way to our hearts, even today,
as we stumble over the questions,
…probe our understandings,
…and reexamine our ways.
And in the Via de Cristo,
may we become a living invitation to all,
…an invitation into the Via de Cristo,
…and into the welcoming presence and promise of the Divine. – Amen
