How blessed we are by the presence of those
who come among us for a first time,
…whether just once, or for a season,
or perhaps as a prelude to a longer time of walking,
and talking, …and serving alongside one another.
Divine Presence, may all who cross our threshold
encounter hands of greeting and warmth,
…inviting conversation and refreshment,
…and the joy flowing from our shared searchings
for the ways of Jesus in our own time and circumstance.
May we be found a good work in progress,
welcoming all without reservation or judgment,
seeking only the mind and heart of the one Spirit we share.
For those who thirst for a more merciful and just
expression of “church,” may they find in us kindred souls,
drawn together not to think alike,
but to think together on things of importance.
For those healing from hurt or loss,
…or wounded through church failure,
…or perhaps just tired,
…may we be to them a sacred oasis where the water is sweet,
and there is time to rest in the shade and recover.
To those whose explorations into the deeper and harder questions
have elsewhere been discouraged,
may we be found a people who learn
from each other’s questions and explorations.
To those whose faith is in flux, evolving from an inherited faith
toward the integrity of a more personal, internal faith walk,
may they find themselves among kindred souls.
And when we part ways, may that sense of kinship linger long,
…an enduring bond among seekers we have found
here in this Via de Cristo, ...this Way of Christ. – Amen
